The Rooijakkers family's pig farm has a special history. From a mixed farm with piglets and cows, the company has evolved to include only piglets. The Rooijkakkers family considers the welfare of the piglets and being visible to visitors very important. The Rooijakkers family was the first company in the Netherlands to have a skybox from which visitors could view the piglets every day. Since then, more than 200,000 people have visited.
Following this development, the Rooijakkers family transformed the pig farm into a recreational knowledge center; PorcusCampus. The farm now houses different pig breeds and there is more to see and information from the piglets. The skybox has gained more features and a nice outdoor terrace has been added.
At PorcusCampus you can now also buy your pork, because what could be better than also tasting the meat of the different breeds of piglets, each with their own taste, production and consumption culture. The piglets at PorcusCampus have a very nice life. They are in spacious straw pens and you can see them from the skybox. There are only a few piglets of each breed. Some breeds are not kept in pig farming today because they are not interesting for economic production. But the taste of the meat from these piglets is often better because they have more of the intramuscular fat.
